Many of France Off the Beaten Path tour guests plan an extended stay in Paris either before or after their Provence, Loire Valley, Bordeaux or Champagne tour. During the planning stages of guest travel, frequently asked questions often include asking for details on how to best navigate the Charles de Gaulle or Orly airports, and how to travel to and from Paris city center upon arrival at either airport. Below I have included complete details on how to plan transfers that permit you to make transfer choices that fit your travel preferences and budget.

… BETWEEN CHARLES DE GAULLE AIRPORT & CENTRAL PARIS …

Taxi – The fare to central Paris is about $70–$90. Rates vary according to the time of day. Supplements are added on Sundays and holidays, for each piece of luggage, and for additional passengers. Although the airport is just 15 miles outside of central Paris, the trip into the city often takes close to an hour.  Travelers need to queue for a TAXI. To reach the closest taxi stand to your location, follow the TAXI signs and arrows inside the airport.

Super Shuttle Paris – (en.supershuttle.fr): This is a convenient way to reach your Paris destination. Shared shuttle service costs around $30 for one person and around $20 for each additional passenger. Reservations are required.  You can also reserve a private shuttle.

Air France Bus (Les Cars Air France) – (www.lescarsairfrance.com/en.html): Air France buses provide service from all terminals to several specific locations in central Paris, including stops at Etoile/Champs‐Elysees, Gare Montparnasse, and Gare de Lyon. Buses leave about every 30 minutes (depending on your destination) from early morning to late evening. One‐way fares cost around $20. Tickets can be purchased online, at the Air France Coach ticket office inside the airport, or from the driver as you board the bus.

Roissybus – (www.ratp.fr – click the British flag for the English language website): The Paris Transit Authority’s (RATP) “Roissybus” offers service between the airport and Place de l’Opera (drops off at the corner of Rue Scribe and Rue Auber – by the Intercontinental Hotel and Opera itself) every 15–20 minutes, 6 a.m.–12:30 a.m. Cost per person is approximately $12. Travel time to central Paris varies from 45 minutes to well over 1 hour.

RER – The Paris Transit Authority (RATP) also offers RER metro service (use line “RER B”) between the airport’s TGV stations and several Paris stations including Gare du Nord and Chatelet‐Les Halles (for more stops check the website) — website info at http://parisbytrain.com/tag/roissy/ . Trains run every 10–20 minutes 5 a.m.–midnight. The trip takes 25–45 minutes depending on destination. Tickets cost about $10 per person, and can be purchased inside the airport train station (Terminal 2, Hall F).

… BETWEEN ORLY AIRPORT & CENTRAL PARIS …

Taxi – Expect to pay $45–$70 for the trip into central Paris. Rates vary according to the time of day. Supplements are added on Sundays and holidays, for each piece of luggage, and for additional passengers. Orly is located about 9 miles south of the city center, and transfer time is about 20 to 35 minutes depending on time of day. Travelers need to queue for a TAXI. To reach the Orly taxi stand, follow the TAXI signs and arrows to the main exit of the baggage claim area.

Super Shuttle Paris – (en.supershuttle.fr): Super Shuttle also provides shared shuttle service from Orly Airport. The fare is about $20 for one person and about $10 for each additional passenger. Reservations are required.

Air France Bus (Les Cars Air France) – (www.lescarsairfrance.com/en.html): The Air France bus runs between Orly, Gare Montparnasse, Invalides and Etoile/Champs‐Elysees every 30 minutes from around 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The cost one‐way is approximately $15 per person; the trip time is 45 minutes–1 hour.

Orlybus – (www.ratp.fr – click the British flag for the English language website): The Paris Transit Authority’s (RATP) “Orlybus” provides service every 8–15 minutes, 6 a.m.–12:30 a.m. to Denfert‐ Rochereau Metro station for around $9 per person; average trip time is 30 minutes.

OrlyVal to RER B – Another option is to take the “OrlyVal” monorail which departs from each terminal’s arrivals area at the Orly airport, and transfers travelers to the Antony RER station every 4–7 minutes, 6 a.m.–11 p.m.  From the arrival at the Antony station, connect to the RER B line which travels to Paris in about 20 minutes. The trip costs about $10.
